Global Research Council: African regional meetings

Number of visits: 279

The Global Research Council(GRC) was launched in 2012 as a ‘virtual organization’ comprised of heads of science and engineering funding agencies with the aim of promoting and sharing of data and best practices. The next global summit is scheduled to be hosted by China in 2014. In preparation for that meeting, regional meetings are being held in the different regions of the world. The aim of this meeting was to consider the “peculiar (sic) and contextual issues in respect of the GRC goals generally and in particular two documents: The Statement of principles for funding the future and Review template for implementation of GRC open access action plan.” The meeting was hosted by the South African National Research Foundation in Pretoria with representatives from the African Union, Kenya, Lesotho and from CODESRIA. In attendance were representatives from the GRC, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and North America Global Research Council / Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation).
