Durban, South Africa from 11 to 18 September 2015.
The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), in collaboration with the University of KwaZulu Natal in Durban, South Africa, organised the 8th South-South Institute on "Inequality and Social Justice: Perspectives from the South. " This meeting, which took place during the World Social Science Forum is part of the South-South program, developed with partner institutions: CLACSO and IDEA. The Institute took place in the premises of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, 11 to 18 September 2015, but the participants of the Institute also had the opportunity to attend a number of sessions of the World Social Science Forum.
The 8th South-South Institute brought together forty researchers and academics from more than twenty countries of Latin America, Asia and Africa. Thirty papers were presented in addition to five introductory lectures by invited resource persons. The Institute featured lively debates on various aspects of inequality and social justice. Issues such as gender inequality, poverty, conflict, insecurity,, human rights, development, social justice, taxation mechanism, the general economic policies in, governance, democracy, and the distribution of natural resources were examined.
A network of researchers drawn from the three continents of Africa, Asia and South America was formed to look closely at the issues of inequality and social justice as they affect the South. .
