The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) is pleased to invite you to the Roundtable on "Publishing and Communicating Research in Childhood Studies" that it is organizing on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:30 pm at its Headquarters (Avenue Cheikh Anta Diop X Canal IV, Dakar/Senegal). . The roundtable is part of the CODESRIA, Child and Youth institute which has been holding here at the CODESRIA offices, now on its second and final week.
The panelists at the roundtable will speak on the challenges of academic publishing and communication, especially with regard to themes that focus on Children and youth in Africa. The landscape of publishing and the medium through which researchers and academics disseminate research outcomes are also changing rapidly. The panel will provide a platform for participants to share experiences regarding scholarship in Africa on Children and Youth, engage in reflections bearing on authorship, editing and reviewing such works for journal publications. The roundtable will also encourage engagement with issues on how research on children would have a better bearing on policy.
The Session will be moderated by Tatek Abebe Mamo of the Center for Research on Childhood at the University of Norway in Science and Technology. The other panelists will be Thierno Souleymane Barry (Faculty of Law, University of Laval / University of Sherbrooke), Ian Hopwood (UNICEF), Mélanie Jacquemin (IRD Children’s Research Officer) and Divine Fuh (Director of the CODESRIA Publications and Dissemination Program). Other academics and activists with relevant expertise and experience on the theme of the Round Table have been invited.
