Mrs Samia Nkrumah leads important delegation to visit CODERIA

Number of visits: 13141

Several CODESRIA staff, led by the Executive Secretary, Dr Godwin Murunga received Ms. Samia Nkrumah, a pan-Africanist activist and politician and daughter of Kwame Nkrumah. Ms. Nkrumah is currently in Dakar to meet Senegalese authorities and pan-African institutions such as CODESRIA. The series of meeting she is involved in are a prelude to the Pre-Congress scheduled for Accra, Ghana from 10th to 16th December 2018. The conference is organised by the Interim International Initiative Committee (CIIP) for the Achievement of the United African States (UAE).

In Senegal, the Committee is led by General Mamadou Mansour Seck who has served as Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Senegal and former Senegalese Ambassador to the United States of America. CODESRIA is a pan-African research organisation, and is therefore associated with this both because of its work but also based on conviction. Indeed, the discussion between the two parties re-affirmed the value of the pan-African spirit that informed the struggle for independence across Africa and raised the urgent need for African academics and thinkers to get politically engaged in a new pan-Africanism that carries solutions to contemporary challenges on the continent.
