The Humanities Program is a framework
specially created to support activities in the field
with humanities scholars and researchers from
other social science disciplines. It is housed at the University of Ghana, Legon (Ghana).
The CODESRIA Humanities Programme is a core programme and encompasses all work areas of the Humanities and encourages scholarship that explores linkages across disciplinary areas.
The Programme accords equal value to empirical, as well as creative work; written work, as well as audio-visual productions
Activities of the CODESRIA Humanities Programme are open to all scholars and researchers interested in the research and development of the Humanities as it pertains to Africa activities including:
Fellowships and Networks
Gives expression to the inter-linkage between the two broad areas of the Social Sciences and Humanities as normatively defined
Promotes humanities research
Promotes creative interpretations of African reality
Promotes alternative, critical analysis of issues of relevance to Africa and Africa’s development through the lens of the Humanities
Offers a platform for debating Humanities social research issues
The main component of this programme has so far been the Humanities Institute, hosted by the University of Ghana Legon. Other activities include a major conference on and with Musicians as Intellectuals, looking specifically at the role of music in society, intellectual property rights, etc.
