From 12th to 16th January 2015, CODESRIA held in Oran (Algeria) the sub-regional methodological workshop of North Africa: It brought together 24 laureates, (mostly Master II and PhD students ) from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and belonging to various disciplines of the social sciences (Economics, Sociology, Demography, Psychology, History, Political science…).
The resource persons were Mr. Madani Safar Zitoune (Algeria), Mr. Bouhdiba Sofiane (Tunisia) and Mr. Laghzaoui Soulaimane (Morocco). CODESRIA was represented by the head of the training department, Aminata Diaw Cissé and the Secretary of the Department, Ms. Emilie Sarr Diouf.
The laureates were able, within the framework of three practice sessions led by each of the resource persons, to share their research and the methodological challenges they face with the audience. Participants were earlier on exposed to theoretical sessions on how to choose a topic, inductive and deductive modes of investigation, on sampling, on the difference between longitudinal and latitudinal analysis, narrative graphs, etc.
The discussions paid significant attention to the qualitative versus quantitative methods debate.
