In partnership with Ford Foundation and the Association For Research On Nonprofit Organizations And Voluntary Action (ARNOVA), AROCSA has established the Emerging African Scholars’ (EAS) Program in Africa. The PhD Workshop seeks to provide guidance for emerging scholars on the path to a successful career, help sharpen their research skills and address the challenges that African PhD students face.

The GOAL is to provide scholarly research support, professional advice and mentoring for doctoral students in the field of nonprofit management, philanthropy, civil society, social entrepreneurship and voluntary action studies. This free program is open to doctoral students from Africa whose research focus is based in these fields in Africa. Students at the various under-listed stages in their doctoral program are encouraged to apply :

Students who have defended a dissertation proposal
Students who have not yet defended a dissertation proposal
Students whose dissertation plans are not yet fully

As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, AROCSA held it’s first Virtual PhD Workshop on July 30th, 2020. The EAS which usually runs in tandem with the annual AROCSA conference, was held as a stand alone event featuring scholars from across the continent and faculty from around the world.

The scholars submitted concept papers which focused on civil society, philanthropy, and social entrepreneurship. The event also featured speakers who elaborated on topics such as managing the relationship with stakeholders during your PhD program and publishing your papers.
