The Executive Secretariat

The Executive Secretariat, based in Dakar, Senegal, is the body responsible for implementing programmes and activities to materialise the strategic plan set by CODESRIA’s General Assembly.

It accomplishes this task in close collaboration with the Executive Committee and the Scientific Committee. The Executive Secretariat is organised around three scientiifc programmes Research Programme, Training, Grants and Fellowships Programme, and Publications Programme. It also includes a Department of Administration and Finances and the CODESRIA Documentation, Information and Communication Centre (CODICE), which support all programs.

Each programme is headed by a manager hired by the Executive Committee. The work of programme managers and all other staff of the Secretariat is supervised by the Executive Secretary. This also provides intellectual leadership, raising funds to finance the activities of the Council, sign all contracts on behalf of the Board and assume representative functions on behalf of the African community of social science research.

Since its creation in 1973, CODESRIA’s Secretariat has been successively administered by the following Executive Secretaries:

Since the 7th of June 2017, Dr. Godwin R. Murunga has been CODESRIA’s Executive Secretary.
