Advanced Senior Research Fellowship

CODESRIA will be reintroducing the Advanced Senior Research Fellowship. Under this programme a maximum of 10 experienced and prestigious fellowships will be offered to researchers who have had not less than 10 years of postdoctoral experience and whose record of research and publishing widely is proven.

The qualified scholars will be supported to undertake research, but also mentor younger academics within their cohort, based on a submitted proposal that fits CODESRIA’s intellectual agenda. The aim is to produce a series of outputs, including book-length manuscripts, monographs and special issues of journals.

The Fellowship is especially intended for senior African scholars with more than 10 years postdoctoral experience who wish to conduct research on any aspect of African social reality as delimited by the current strategic plan.

This programme is open to candidates from all disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. It supports scholars interested in charting new research directions or expanding research areas already explored, to enhance the level of knowledge on different aspects of historical and contemporary experiences of Africa.

Candidates are free to choose the topic of their choice and specify the methodology they wish to adopt. During the process of selecting candidates, emphasis will be on originality and innovativeness.

The scholarships will be awarded over a period of one year, at the end of which successful candidates must submit a report of 50,000 to 80,000 words. If accepted for publication, this will appear in the CODESRIA Monograph series.

Senior female scholars are strongly encouraged to apply.
