Founded in September, 2007, the Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University (IASZNU) is currently the biggest institute in Chinese higher education institutions dedicated to the comprehensive study of Africa. The institute has Prof. Liu Hongwu, a prominent expert in African studies, as its director, and now has 32 full-time researchers and administrative staffs. For postgraduate programs, the institute offers 3-year master’s programs in International Relations, International Politics, African History and Culture and African Education, and has over 50 full-time postgraduates. In order to further reinforce the fostering of the postgraduates, improve the quality of talent-training, broaden the students’ international visions, as well as enhance the understanding of Africa and the idea exchanges with Africa. IASZNU is presently looking for 2 foreign teachers from China and aboard. One teacher will teach the courses and carry out the research related to African History and Culture, and the other will teach the courses and carry out the research related to African Politics and International Relations.
Requirements:
1. Consciously abide by Chinese laws, regulations and the administrative provisions of Zhejiang Normal University; respect the customs of the Chinese people; be no more than 58 years old and in good physical and mental health conditions.
2. Must possess a PhD with a title of Associate Professor or above.
3. Research areas are African History and Culture, or African Politics and International Relations; be able to teach in English.
4. Experience of teaching related courses in a university or research institute is highly valued.
Work Load and Duration of Employment:
1. To undertake 2-3 postgraduate courses, 14 teaching periods per week.
2. To participate in research projects of IASZNU and complete phased achievements (including paper, research report, or monograph.) at the end of contract period.
3. To participate in other academic activities organized by IASZNU and fulfill any other tasks assigned by the institute.
4. The duration of employment is one academic year. The employment contract can be renewed based on both parties’ agreement through negotiation.
Salary and Other Benefits:
1. Salary is determined by the applicant’s professional title, level of expertise, previous work experience, and work load. The university will deal with the social insurance participation of an employee in the right month he/she reports.
2. Well-furnished free residence is provided by the university.
3. A certain amount of international air-ticket subsidies will be offered.
