
Dr Marema Toure Thiam is a Senegalese sociologist. She is the former director of the Social and Human Sciences Sector at the West Africa Office of UNESCO. Gender is her field of interest. She defended one of the first African theses on gender in 1996 at University of Paris 1, Sorbonne, France. One of her most recent publications is titled ‘Aspects épistémologiques, théoriques et culturels de la recherche sur le genre en Afrique’ (Epistemological, theoretical and cultural aspects of gender research in Africa), in Présence Africaine (2018), vol. 197, n° 1, p. 313-336.
