Project Title / Titre du projet: Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) as Indigenous Social Solidarity Systems: Reimagining Social Capital in Wartime Sudan
Biographie / Biography: As part of my current scholarly engagement, I am working on two research papers whose concept notes have been approved by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies.
The first paper examines Gulf–Africa relations, with a specific focus on the United Arab Emirates’ geo-strategic engagement in Africa. The study analyzes political, economic, and security dimensions of UAE involvement, situating Sudan within broader regional and continental dynamics. It adopts a political economy and geopolitical lens to assess how external actors shape development trajectories, sovereignty, and regional power relations.
The second paper focuses on Sudanese refugees in exile, exploring their everyday adaptation strategies in contexts of asylum. This research examines how displaced Sudanese navigate livelihoods, social networks, identity, and access to services under conditions of prolonged uncertainty. By centering refugees’ lived experiences, the paper aims to contribute to more grounded and humane policy discussions on displacement and protection.
Together, these research engagements reflect my broader interest in linking local experiences with regional and international political processes, and in producing knowledge that is both analytically rigorous and policy-relevant.
