Patrícia Alexandra Godinho Gomes is originay from Guinea-Bissau. Before joining CODESRIA, Patricia Alexandra Godinho Gomes acted as Associate Professor, level 4, according to Brazilian national academic system, at the Post-Graduate Program on Ethnic and African Studies, at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. She graduated in International Relations at the Institute of Social and Political Sciences, Technical University of Lisbon. Patricia Gomes holds a PhD in History of Modern and Contemporary Africa and a post-doctorate in African History from the University of Cagliari, Italy, as well as a post-doctorate in Ethnic and African Studies from the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. Her teaching and research are situated at the intersection of Lusophone African studies and Gender and Feminist studies, including Women in National Liberation Struggles and democratization processes. She has published extensively on anticolonial struggles and women`s emancipation with a feminist approach in the Portuguese speaking African countries, with special focus on Guinea-Bissau and Cabo Verde. Patricia Gomes serves as book reviewer editor of different publishers as the Journal of African Humanities Research and Development (JAHRD) as well as a member of editorial board of several academic publishers. She is currently engaged in a publication project entitled “Women and Liberation Struggle in Guinea-Bissau: History and Trajectories”.
